mat is the perfect place to get away from it all with virtually none of the distractions of modern life, an ideal place
for a family vacation or totally uninterrupted business meeting.
You will not hear any annoying ring tones as mobile phones do not work here.

Walk for miles along the river banks, through the forests or along the hills and the chances are that you will not meet a soul. Its very difficult though not to meet some of our wildlife.

The magnificent sika and red stags will stand and watch you go by or even pose for your camera. foxes, stoats, pine martens and otters scamper about and every year a pesky heron turns up for a free meal - we have excellent salmon.

Amat means "confluence" and refers to its situation The Confluenceclose to the junction of the Carron and Blackwater rivers.

To the west lies Amat forest which is the largest extant piece of the old Caledonian forest at this latitude.

The Vikings and their successors including King Charles II made their warships from Amat forest timbers, which were floated down the river to the sea.

There is a potted history of Amat from
1000 - 2000 AD available written by Jonny Shaw. For more details click the Books link
