mat House is an old Ross clan chieftains Hunting Lodge in a tranquil and remote setting between high heather covered hills and an old majestic Caledonian forest of the same name.

The house is lived in but the family are away for certain weeks of the year and so are able to offer their home to parties who would like to get away from it all whilst enjoying high standards of comfort in an outstanding setting.

The tarmac road ends at Amat at the foot of the mountains that guard the approach to the west coast some 25 miles distant. There being no through road, a holiday here is a holiday away from traffic.

The house itself stands on the very edge of the River Carron - you can hear the water flowing by you as you lie in bed.
